WAH nails review….

I have said this so many times on this blog, so sorry to my regular readers because here comes another…..I have no patience with nail varnish. Occasionally when I have a spare hour I will sit down and give them a paint, full of promise and positivity which quickly disappears when i realise my nails are still tacky and I want to make a cup of tea and play on my phone. SO, it may come as a surprise to some that i have been following WAH nails since its conception.
“In 2008, founder Sharmadean Reid had an inkling that the nail art she and her friends had been sporting for years was about to hit the mainstream (and having working as a trend consultant since graduating from Central St Martins, she should know!) After another bad experience at a local nail salon (they refused to do the Dior double french) she decided she was going to open her own salon where you could have “Whatever you wanted on your fingertips” and of course, it would be called WAH Nails.”  (http://www.wah-nails.com/about)
I like their whole ethos. WAH started not just a nail bar but a lifestyle enhancement. And of-course, I always admire business women who aren’t afraid of coming out with something new, which is exactly what Sharmadean Reid did. Oh and I hate french manicures…
Not being one to splurge on beauty treatments (i’m usually a D.I.Y kinda gal) I never booked myself in…until Saturday. That’s right, i finally splurged, and I’m so glad I did, I’m in love! Here is what my nails looked like:

The lovely WAH girl Cherry did my nails in a surprisingly short amount of time. Considering my nails are quite short for the designs I wanted, I thought she did an amazing job. I was very familiar with WAH’s classic mix and match and knew that is what I wanted. I think next time I will get something more unified for a change. I paid £37.50 for this, a little pricey but I could no way do this art myself so I was happy to pay it. I would’t recommend the studs unless the nails are for a special occasion the same day as they have already fallen off, which i knew they would once the nail varnish got too hard.
All in all I really enjoyed my experience and am already planning my next trip. Follow @wahnails on Instagram for amazing nail inspiration and to book an appointment at the Oxford street salon call: +44 (0)20 7927 7844

Beauty on the go

I spend a good proportion of my life on trains. So much so I know a couple of the refreshment vendors on a first name basis, blimey. I actually enjoy being on trains, it gives me half an hour or so to gather my thoughts, look at my emails (yeah i’m lying I really mean Facebook) and most importantly DO MY MAKE UP. I know i’m not the only one here ladies, I see you all with your compacts and careful mascara work.

So when your on the move, don’t let you make up bag weigh you down. Pick your most compact, day wear friendly, multi-use products you have. Honestly it’s not as hard as it sounds, as you can see below.

Sleek contouring and blush palette in Medium, Soap and Glory Trick and Treatment under eye concealer, Maybelline Colossal volume Cat Eyes, ModelCo illusion lip liner in nude, The Body Shop All-In-One BB Crean (03) and The Body shop Born Lippy lip balm in Pink Berry

Sleek contouring and blush palette in Medium, Soap and Glory Trick and Treatment under eye concealer, Maybelline Colossal volume Cat Eyes, ModelCo illusion lip liner in nude, The Body Shop All-In-One BB Crean (03) Rimmel waterproof liquid liner (black) and The Body shop Born Lippy lip balm in Pink Berry

The finished product!

The finished product!

The trick is to make sure every base is covered eyes, lips, and face. And if its not covered, think of alternatives. Like if I don’t bring my Benefit browzings kit to work one day, i will put a tiny bit of mascara in my brows to darken them. Things like The Body Shop all in one BB Cream are great because there is no need to cram your moisturiser in there too!

So ladies, does your bag need taking down a peg or two??

Until next time 🙂 xxxxx

Summer Lips

Yes, that big yellow thing in the sky IS the sun and yes, it IS finally summer. Well, it has been sunny for around a week now so hey ho good enough for me.

If you are like me, I like to leave some of the colours I wore in the winter with my bobble hats and baggy jumpers and try new colour palletes. Summer also means after work drinks, limiting my lipstick choices according to whatever space is left for my handbag.

So just for you, I have finally narrowed down my two favourite lip looks for the summer..what do you think?

moi

purple

1. For a laid back, super nude look, outline your lips with Model Co illusion nude lip liner for a fuller pout and dab on Myth by MAC. Top Tip: You cannot acheive this look with dry lips. Layer on you favourite Lip balm and let it sink in for a good 15 minutes before you do your make up. I love the Body Shop’s Born Lippy in Pink Berry.

2. I love this purple/pink look as it screams summer but is bang on trend too. Great if you like the two-toned effect but are too scared of looking like you have two sets of lips….que interesting mental images. I used Up the Amp (Mac) and smudged Viva Glam (Nicki) lip glass in the middle of the lips. Top Tip: You can do this with so many different shades, simply find a semi-matte or matte lipstick and a lighter lipgloss with of the same tone.

Stay tuned for my other favourite summer looks…….mwah xxxxx

Double liquid liner

Winter is fast approaching…booo, but take solace in the knowledge that with new seasons come new make-up trends. One of them being the double flick liquid liner. Think a modern-day Cleopatra. Winter allows you to be a bit bolder with your make-up, so think like an Egyptian and double up!

Once you have mastered your liquid liner on your top lashes, you CAN do the same on your bottom lashes, so be brave and give it a go. Once you have done your top lash line, start half way along your lower lash line, stay as close as you can to the lashes and follow the natural eye line. Make the bottom line slightly longer than the top to elongate the eye. If you are feeling extra adventurous, why not draw the line slightly away from the lash line. This will not only make your eyes look bigger, but showcase a retro 60’s look.

PS. I prefer liquid liners with a hard nib, because they give you more control than the teeny tiny brushes. My fav is Barry M Liquid Liner in black. £4.79.

Why have one flick?

When you can have two?

Kim k loves a double flick!!

Wedding Make-up

So we all know about the royal wedding tomorrow and I don’t know about you but I’m more interested in Kate Middleton’s make-up then anything else ( yes this is a bit shallow but hey, I am a beauty writer!) I have to say I am impressed to hear that Kate is daring to go it alone on the day with just some helpful tips from the amazing British make-up artist Arabella Preston. So whether you’re a go-it-alone bride or gearing up to attend a succession of summer weddings then its time to get savvy with wedding make-up. Here are my tops products for that big day:

Eyelure Individual lashes (£5.30)

For me it’s all about natural lashes on the day, when I say natural of course I mean the best that natural can possibly be! These individual lashes give the illusion of natural lashes without compromising a full flutter. Either add 2 or 3 individual lashes to the outer corner of the lash line to open up the eyes and create a flirty, innocent look or use as many as you want across the whole lash line for a fuller effect. The beauty of these is that you aren’t left with an obvious seam that other false lashes have. Plus they last for up to 4 weeks which will take you right into the honeymoon season 🙂

Guerlain Parure Extreme Fluid Foundation (£35.50)

Weddings are tearful times for Brides and guests alike and while most make-up brands offer waterproof mascara, it’s a little more tricky to obtain waterproof foundation. Sounds odd but think about it, who wants tear stains down their face when toasting the happy couple. Enter Guerlain. Yes their products are expensive but if its luxury you’re looking for then look no further. Parure Extreme Fluid Foundation is not only water-resistant, its got your spf 25 sorted. It has the perfect balance between a matte and radiant finish and you can wear this product with confidence throughout the whole day, even when everything else goes wrong (heaven forbid!)

Estee Lauder Pure Color Long lasting lipstick (£18.00)

Kissing and weddings go hand in hand, so you may as well do it with your lips looking fabulous! Estee Lauder’s range of Pure Color lipsticks are beautiful and classic and are a must for the wedding season. With a satin sheen finish, this product isn’t drying like a lot of long wear lipsticks and offer two finishes, creme and shimmer. Go with shimmer if you want a fuller pout as the sparkly particles will reflect the light off the lips creating a fuller smoother effect. If your going for heavier eye make up then go for the creme finish for a subtle shine. All textures are infused with shea butter to take care of your smackers too, because at the end of the day, no one wants a flaky pout! My personal favourite….and belive me this was really hard to pick..is Ambition Creme.

Tigi Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo (£11.25)

Not the most appropriate name for a wedding beauty product but don’t be a prude because   your roots will thank you for it. With all the stress of the day with up-do’s and hair touch ups, those who are prone to greasy locks will suffer. So keep this cheeky shampoo handy to absorb any excess oil in the hair. Also if you have fine hair and are opting for a dramatic up-do then spraying this product on before styling will help keep the hair in place as it gives it more grip. Great for volume and back combing too without the hassle of smelly hairspray!

Calvin Klein Beauty (£35.00-£65.00)

It’s easy to forget fragrance with everything else that going on but there is a great range out there that are just right for weddings. My personal favourite is the relatively new addition to the Calvin Klein fragrance family, Beauty. Just the name says it all. Overpowering fragrances will give you a headache at the end of the long day so keep it fresh with notes of cedarwood and timeless jasmine. But don’t be fooled, this fragrance puts a welcome modern twist on out dated floral fragrances. The key ingredient is Lily which is at the heart of Calvin Klein fragrances so you can rest assure that you will be effortlessly stunning on the big day.
