Double liquid liner

Winter is fast approaching…booo, but take solace in the knowledge that with new seasons come new make-up trends. One of them being the double flick liquid liner. Think a modern-day Cleopatra. Winter allows you to be a bit bolder with your make-up, so think like an Egyptian and double up!

Once you have mastered your liquid liner on your top lashes, you CAN do the same on your bottom lashes, so be brave and give it a go. Once you have done your top lash line, start half way along your lower lash line, stay as close as you can to the lashes and follow the natural eye line. Make the bottom line slightly longer than the top to elongate the eye. If you are feeling extra adventurous, why not draw the line slightly away from the lash line. This will not only make your eyes look bigger, but showcase a retro 60’s look.

PS. I prefer liquid liners with a hard nib, because they give you more control than the teeny tiny brushes. My fav is Barry M Liquid Liner in black. £4.79.

Why have one flick?

When you can have two?

Kim k loves a double flick!!

Max Factor Masterpiece- There is a reason it’s number 1

So, I love mascara, and way back I did a little post called ‘My top 5 mascaras’. My number one was Max Factor Masterpiece (£8.99 from Boots). A whole load of mascaras have been released since that post. Some were good, some were ok and some were down right awful. ‘If it aint broke then don’t fix it’ an overused cliché but true non the less. Max Factor Masterpiece still reigns supreme and here is why:

So now you have the proof, will you try anything else?

HD Brows

Ladies (and Gentlemen), skinny eyebrows are a definite no no. Brows are back in fashion and back with vengeance because when it comes to the eyebrow, bolder is most definitely better. Would the likes of Beyonce or Kim Kardashian be seen with sketched on brows? No, because like the rest of the fashion world, they are embracing strong eyebrows.

Skinny, faint eyebrows don’t suit anyone. Fact. Strong, confident brows are the way forward, but this statement look needs a helping hand…enter HD brows. Re-shaping your brows can be a daunting process, but trust me, after visiting a HD brow stylist; you will never go back to tweezing again.

My brows have been through it all, over plucking, excessive waxing, pencilling in, trimming, you name it, I have done it to my brows! I heard about HD brows through word of mouth, and after looking at way too many pictures of myself with dodgy brows, I thought to myself, “what have I got to lose”.

HD brows is not only a treatment, it’s a personalised service that caters to your individual brow needs. Perhaps what makes HD brows different (and better) is that the perfect shape is established before a single hair is plucked or threaded. The technician sketched the brow shape she thought would suit my face shape, once I was satisfied the next step was the HD tint.  I have never had an eyebrow tint that lasted so long. My HD brow tint lasted at least 2 weeks longer than other tints I have had in other salons, so well worth the money!

Next was threading. I have had my eyebrows threaded before and have always been abit wary because they looked VERY thin after…not a good look. But because the shape was already established, the results were perfect. My eyebrows were also trimmed for a streamline effect and any strays were also plucked out.

Unlike other brow treatments, my HD technician advised about after care and how to fill in my brows. She used the HD brow pallet fill in any gaps and create a more striking look. This also helps between treatments as it keeps the shape defined, meaning if you do get a few stray hairs,  you don’t make the mistake of plucking into the shape.

HD brow treatments do vary. Although mine were threaded, depending on individual needs wax is also used. My eyebrows had some shape to them already so it wasn’t necessary to use both!

I was more than happy with the results. People underestimate the benefits of a good brow shape. It can make your face look slimmer, define your features and give you a completely new look. The results were long lasting as well. I didn’t have to go back to the salon for 7 weeks and even when I did, they were in much better condition than what they would have been without my HD brow treatment.

Brighten up!

So it’s 7.00 in the morning, you haven’t had your coffee fix and your running late…not the best way to start your day!

On mornings like these (and trust me, I experience many like them) I like to brighten up. There is nothing worse than heavy make up on tired eyes, so I always turn to my old faithful friend eye bright by Benefit cosmetics (£14.00)

This product is an exception to other brightening eyeliners as the soft pink is the perfect shade, as a pose to white which can look harsh. Simply draw across the water line of the eye and for it in the inner and outer corners of the eye. Remember to blend, I usually just use my finger as the product is really soft! And voila, who knew you could look so pretty so early in the morning?

The StyleDriven Love Story

First of all, apologies for being so…well….lame. I have recently started a new job and just when I thought I was getting back into the swing of things, my bag got stolen which had my beloved digital camera in, my phone..and basically my whole life!

But onwards and upwards, I’m back on track and so glad to be writing about beauty again! Please excuse the lack of non editorial pictures, when I get a new camera I will more than make up for it!

So, my beautiful sister got married recently, so I was lucky enough to have a make-over with a great MAC make-up artist who did a great job. But while the theme was very natural and soft, I couldn’t help but notice the StyleDriven range….the Pro longwear Lipcremes in particular.

With Long wear technology, this range really does what it says on the tin…but in all honesty, i was more drawn to the bright pink lipstick (Love Forever!)…it was like love at first sight. I had been looking for a bright pink, semi matte lipstick for over a month now, and just like fate, there it was…(don’t judge me, make up gets me excited!)

I had already spent my months wages on wedding make-up, so with an emotional goodbye, I parted with my new love and hoped we would meet again.

Luckily my friends are just as make-up mad as me, and my love friend Bea treated me to the lipstick about a week later…we haven’t been apart since…true love!

Don’t get me wrong, I love my gloss and other..shall we say..timid shades..but this one is a keeper, a lovely semi matte finish and true pigment colour. Goes perfectly with false lashes and thick liquid liner for that 50’s inspired look or to complement a delicate smokey eye.

So now I have shared my new love with you, it’s time to find yours, the range has over 12 shades to choose from, as well as a complete eye shadow range, super long lasting lip liners and new shades of pro-longwear lipglass for those who are still addicted to the glossier side of life.

and they lived happily ever after 🙂 xx Until next time xx

The Vintage Cosmetic Company

My un-healthy obsession with lashes has just been cranked up a notch with The Vintage cosmetic company’s new false eyelash range (£6.50 a pair). There are five different styles to choose from including Kitty, Nancy, Connie and Betty and Gracie meaning that there is a vintage style for every mood.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on Gracie, the style that promises a cute and girly style. I was not left disappointed.

The best thing about these lashes is that they are actually wearable. While the false eyelash market is still booming, there is a lack of styles out there that can actually look beautiful and believable; enter The Vintage Cosmetic Company.  Easy application and durable adhesive is a must and these eyelashes deliver both whilst creating a sexy yet soft finish.

Gracie is the perfect style girls who love playing around with their eye make-up. This is because the lashes are set in separated clusters, which will add volume to your own lashes without taking all the attention away from your eye shadow and liner. Dense lashes will cover your lids but with Gracie your entire look is enhanced, not hidden.

The vintage look can be worn by anyone thanks to its ultra-feminine appeal. Think statement lips, black liquid liner and a perfect photo finish skin.  I have teamed my lashes with a classic vintage look, mirroring the style of Gracie with a flirty fun edge.

Don’t forget, false eyelashes worn on their own can look really effective. These lashes have made this look easy to achieve through the invisible strip that sits comfortably on your own lash line. The slightly fanned out edges also add that little bit of glamour that mascara can’t do.

The range was launched at the vintage haven that is The Powder rooms in Soho this week, raising the bar for the eyelash market; I would recommend these lashes to everyone who needs a bit of glamour in their lives.

Wedding Make-up

So we all know about the royal wedding tomorrow and I don’t know about you but I’m more interested in Kate Middleton’s make-up then anything else ( yes this is a bit shallow but hey, I am a beauty writer!) I have to say I am impressed to hear that Kate is daring to go it alone on the day with just some helpful tips from the amazing British make-up artist Arabella Preston. So whether you’re a go-it-alone bride or gearing up to attend a succession of summer weddings then its time to get savvy with wedding make-up. Here are my tops products for that big day:

Eyelure Individual lashes (£5.30)

For me it’s all about natural lashes on the day, when I say natural of course I mean the best that natural can possibly be! These individual lashes give the illusion of natural lashes without compromising a full flutter. Either add 2 or 3 individual lashes to the outer corner of the lash line to open up the eyes and create a flirty, innocent look or use as many as you want across the whole lash line for a fuller effect. The beauty of these is that you aren’t left with an obvious seam that other false lashes have. Plus they last for up to 4 weeks which will take you right into the honeymoon season 🙂

Guerlain Parure Extreme Fluid Foundation (£35.50)

Weddings are tearful times for Brides and guests alike and while most make-up brands offer waterproof mascara, it’s a little more tricky to obtain waterproof foundation. Sounds odd but think about it, who wants tear stains down their face when toasting the happy couple. Enter Guerlain. Yes their products are expensive but if its luxury you’re looking for then look no further. Parure Extreme Fluid Foundation is not only water-resistant, its got your spf 25 sorted. It has the perfect balance between a matte and radiant finish and you can wear this product with confidence throughout the whole day, even when everything else goes wrong (heaven forbid!)

Estee Lauder Pure Color Long lasting lipstick (£18.00)

Kissing and weddings go hand in hand, so you may as well do it with your lips looking fabulous! Estee Lauder’s range of Pure Color lipsticks are beautiful and classic and are a must for the wedding season. With a satin sheen finish, this product isn’t drying like a lot of long wear lipsticks and offer two finishes, creme and shimmer. Go with shimmer if you want a fuller pout as the sparkly particles will reflect the light off the lips creating a fuller smoother effect. If your going for heavier eye make up then go for the creme finish for a subtle shine. All textures are infused with shea butter to take care of your smackers too, because at the end of the day, no one wants a flaky pout! My personal favourite….and belive me this was really hard to pick..is Ambition Creme.

Tigi Rockaholic Dirty Secret Dry Shampoo (£11.25)

Not the most appropriate name for a wedding beauty product but don’t be a prude because   your roots will thank you for it. With all the stress of the day with up-do’s and hair touch ups, those who are prone to greasy locks will suffer. So keep this cheeky shampoo handy to absorb any excess oil in the hair. Also if you have fine hair and are opting for a dramatic up-do then spraying this product on before styling will help keep the hair in place as it gives it more grip. Great for volume and back combing too without the hassle of smelly hairspray!

Calvin Klein Beauty (£35.00-£65.00)

It’s easy to forget fragrance with everything else that going on but there is a great range out there that are just right for weddings. My personal favourite is the relatively new addition to the Calvin Klein fragrance family, Beauty. Just the name says it all. Overpowering fragrances will give you a headache at the end of the long day so keep it fresh with notes of cedarwood and timeless jasmine. But don’t be fooled, this fragrance puts a welcome modern twist on out dated floral fragrances. The key ingredient is Lily which is at the heart of Calvin Klein fragrances so you can rest assure that you will be effortlessly stunning on the big day.
